Coffee's always a good idea and my little tree will agree! 🌳 Got inspired after reading that looking at trees, even a painting of one, can reduce stress and improve focus! #GiannaD

la famiglia

As we were losing my grandmother to Alzheimer’s, I began exploring the idea of my family as a way to make sense of things. This piece, "La Famiglia", made up of numerous tiny houses and represents the family's foundation or root system. #GiannaD #art #miami #alzheimers

infinity

6/3/2015

So excited to have just completed this commission!!                   These pieces are inspired by one family’s story of true love. They demonstrate how love is a powerful force – one that transcends boundaries and endures all.

Cynde’s Jewish. Dj‘s Hindu. They are life partners committed to each another. She always knew her child was waiting for them to adopt. They found Krishan in India and as custom required, they got married in order to adopt.

Adoption papers were filed both in India and the U.S. and now their family is complete. To express just how much they care for him, they tell him that their love is for infinity.

Years of family photos are transferred to wood and serve as the backdrop for the pieces. The photos are divided into squares for a quilt-like feel, like a family heirloom with copper thread fastening them together. And just as infinity is boundless, so the photos are wrapped all the way around the sides.

The infinity sign is a meaningful symbol for this family and is made of metallic copper thread. The thread represents the family’s bond. And just as it is said that a three-cord strand is not easily broken, so this family demonstrates how strong they are. While the thread is strong, the symbol itself is delicate in nature and reflects on how love is something precious, with the need for constant care and attention. #GiannaD #miami #art #love #infinity
