shopping as art

I was thinking about this whole idea of immersing yourself in your personal landscape; creating with what you have; using the banal and overlooked. I was thinking about Richard Long’s walks and wanted to do my own walk, in my own landscape, here in cosmopolitan Miami.
So I made “Shopping as Art”. Among other things, I wanted to document these consecutive store entries because each store represents a period of time, thoughts, emotions, and energy expended. A shopping experience is ephemeral in nature, so I wanted to reflect a sense of transience as well.
The purchases were hung on removable plastic hooks which also promoted easy accessibility for viewer participation. They were encouraged to explore the purchases. The original receipts were pinned to the wall above each of the bags. The receipts were attached to the wall exactly as they were given to me.
