At this time I was attempting to learn Spanish and was finding it very challenging. I was learning that textbook Spanish is VERY different than Miami Spanish.  I began thinking about how hard it must be for people trying to learn English to understand some English’s colloquial phrases.  In Child’s Play I take colloquial phrases quite literally. Suddenly these colloquialisms stand on their own. Something perhaps frustrating and confusing somehow becomes whimsical and lighthearted.
